Reflecting on Mental Health Awareness Week

This week, I wanted to pause and share some reflections from my years as a self-employed, working mum — often the breadwinner, juggling work, home, and everything in between.
Nowadays, I see colleagues, clients, and friends living through similar seasons.
👶 Young kids need your time — they want you, they demand you — but at the same time, Mum has KPIs, deadlines, and goals to meet.
There were so many times I’d say,
“I just need to send this email — I’ll be with you in a minute.”
Or that pang of guilt when I handed over a device 📱 just to buy a few precious minutes to finish the day’s work.
And the weekends — those are meant to be family time, right?
But your mind’s half at work, thinking about the client you didn’t email back.
Then halfway to the sports ground, you remember it’s your turn for oranges 🍊 and you’re sprinting through the supermarket, grabbing the out-of-season ones. (Yes — I once even bought a knife just to cut them properly in the carpark. 🙈)
We try so hard to be everything to everyone.
💼 A dedicated professional.
👩👧👦 A loving parent.
🏡 The glue that holds it all together.
It’s not easy. But as a mum of adult children, I can say this with full heart —
👉 It was all worth it.
What they saw was a strong woman — someone who could multitask (even if it was ad-hoc and chaotic at times).
They always had clean clothes, lunches, school gear, and most importantly — love. 💕
So please — don’t beat yourself up if you miss something.
If you forget the “bring a plate” or can’t stay for the shared lunch — it’s OK.
As long as your kids know they’re loved, and that you’re doing your best — that’s what truly matters.
Take a moment to be present today.
🤗 Hug your kids.
🐶 Pat your fur babies.
💞 Tell your partner you appreciate them.
It’s all going to be OK. 🌿
In time, your kids will understand how you held it all together.
They’ll see a woman who tried her best — and what better role model is there than that? 💫
Even if you weren’t the main breadwinner, you contributed — often over and above.
They might never see the late nights, the tough meetings, or the emotional load — but they’ll always remember you, their loving, ever-present mum.
💚 Wishing you kindness, patience, and grace — especially this week.
You’re doing the best you can, with all that you have, right now.
